Although a few people would know that "Spetsnaz" would literally mean Special Forces or Commandos similar to that of the US Army Green Berets or SAS, they fail to fully understand what "Spetsnaz" actually are.

Spetsialnogo Naznacheniya or Spetsnaz basically translates to "Troops of Special Purpose" or in simple english "Special Forces". However, contrary to popular belief, Spetsnaz is not just simply the Special Forces camp of the Russian Army. The phrase "Spetsnaz" can be used to describe any specific Military or Law Enforcement Unit which are trained to conduct Special Operations such as but not limited to Counter-Terrorism, Drug Busts, Hostage Rescue, Deep Reconnaisance and so on. Hence the term "American Spetsnaz" used by Russian TV programmes when referring to US Special Forces or SWAT units.

Communism in Malaysia, again ? And I just couldn't stop myself from saying, WTF ??

Don't these people realize that those Commie Bastards (yeah I'm gonna call them Commie Bastards) were perhaps one of the most violent people on earth (still not as violent as Americans though, but that's another story..) ? These terrorists raped and pillaged little kampungs, looting and burning everything in their path. They had a little revolutionary idea which calls for the use of "indiscriminate force" on achieving their goal, a Red Malaysia. And that call makes them terrorists from day one. And now suddenly the Malaysian youths of today are slowly beginning to like those devils. These kids (okay fine, I'm a kid too) are just ignorant fools who are awesomely misguided and above all call themselves Modern and Open Minded. They obviously don't realise that Communism is a failed ideology and a god-damned one too. And most importantly, they don't realise that more than 50,000 men-at-arms died defending this country and preserving the Malaysian way of life. Allowing Chin Peng or even worse, communism to reappear in Malaysia is like desecrating the graves of all those people who fought and died fighting the Commie Bastards. Those soldiers and policemen were the real heroes, not the commies, not Chin Peng, not anyone else. Malaysia, think again.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://defensetimes.blogspot.com/2009/05/communist-in-malaysia-again-wtf.html' title='Communism in Malaysia, again ? Though that, as said, war is itself a political tool. Therefore, even when war is employed (Utilization of Force) when all other means (political) had failed, War is a continuation of politics by other means.

" War has two main categories; "A war to achieve limited aims" and "A war to neutralize the opponent Politically and Militarily" "

A war to achieve limited aims is basically a war staged either to show the enemy your strength (Show of Force) or to claim a part of the enemy's territory as your own.A perfect example of this case scenario is the 2008 South Ossetian War, where the Russian's decisively defeated the Georgians, but as the objective of Russia itself is to "Liberate" the breakaway republic of South Ossetia, the Georgian Political and Military power is (intentionally) not completely neutralized. Therefore, having a limited aim or objective, it qualifies as a "War to achieve limited aims".

A war to neutralize and render the opponent politically and militarily powerless is a war to completely defeat the enemy and reduce (him) from a threat to a relatively benign threat. At the end of World War I, the Western Powers (Britain,France and the United States) defeated Imperial Germany and the resulting armistice rendered Germany as a powerless state until 20 years later when Adolf Hitler rose into power. Therefore, as the Allies had turned their opponent into a Politically and Militarily powerless state, World War I could be considered as a "war to neutralize and render the opponent politically and militarily powerless" .

" The Outcome of war will favor those who employ the most force and resources "

In the period of 1942-43, when the United States managed to recover its crushing defeats early in the war where they were caught of guard, the United States was able to utilize effectively its military forces and industrial resources (manpower and industrial capacity) and turned the tables against Japan, and ultimately in 1945 was able to defeat the Empire of Japan. As said, "the outcome of war will favor those who employ the most force and resources.

Songs of the day

"Farewell of Slavianka" - Russian Folk Song

"Odni" - Slot

"Mein Herz Brennt" - Rammstein

"Panzerkampf" - Sabaton

"Attero Dominatus" - Sabaton

Rise of The Old Bear - Russia

16th August 2008.A date which would be remembered by most South Ossetians,Abkhazians,Russians and Georgians. That date marks the ceasefire which ultimately ended the 2008 South Ossetian War,a short but significant (well for Military Buffs like me,at least) war.The war allegedly was initiated by Tbilisi to attack and capture the so-called "rebel stronghold" in South Ossetia and Abkhazia, some sources however, state that South Ossetian Separatist were responsible for firing that "First Shot".But anyway,I'm not here to talk about the war,but instead about the rise of Russia, after years since the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

You may ask, what does the 2008 South Ossetian War has to do with Russia rising again as a world superpower, keen on gaining back its influence and impact during the Cold War? The answer is simple: Most observers and analyst agree that Russia took advantage of the war to show the world its might and that it still had the claws of the Old Great Russian Bear. This, well literally shows that Russia is preparing to take the seat as an influential and powerful world superpower.Russia as (almost) everyone knows,is the largest country in the world by territory. They have one of the world's most diverse natural resources. It has the world's largest forest reserve and its lakes contains approx. 1/8th of the world's Fresh Water resource.Russia also has the world's largest Natural Gas reserve. They have the ninth largest Oil reserve and second largest Coal reserve. As so,they had been (and still being) labeled as an "Energy Superpower".

Okay, now we'll see Russia from the military point of view.In terms of the Weapons of Mass Destruction stockpile,Russia is the world largest (though this is objected by some). With approximately 6,700 Strategic Nuclear Warheads in storage, the Old Bear could basically destroy the whole planet. The Russian Army, with an estimated strength of 395,000 men, could be said as the backbone of the Russian Armed Forces. When we talk about the old Soviet Union, most people would remember the strength and intimidation of the Soviet Armoured Divisions. The common nightmare of any NATO commander during the Cold War was an attack by the Soviet Armoured and Motor Rifle Divisions through the Fulda Gap in Germany. But of course we're not talking about the Soviet Union, what I'm trying to point is that as its direct predecessor, the Russian Army is much based on the old Soviet Army,it should be noted that various steps and stages of modernization has brought the army in a number of ways ,away from the tactics, doctrine and organization of the Soviet Union.

Now for a bit of interesting facts. The Russian Army Armoured Divisions received the first of its most modern Main Battle Tank (MBT) the T-90 in 1993.This pretty advanced and modern tank is equipped with a smoothbore 2A46M 125mm Main Gun with a co-axial 7.62mm PKT machine gun and a 12.7mm Kord heavy-machine gun mounted on the Commander's Cuppola. It is protected by a mixture of Composite Armour and Conventional Steel Armour, and not to forget the Kontakt-5 Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA).The tank is also equipped with the Shtora-1 electronic countermeasures system. The reason I'm telling you this is because well, uhmm, okkaayy fine, the T-90 is perhaps my favourite tank..lol

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://defensetimes.blogspot.com/2008/10/rise-of-old-bear-russia.html' title='Rise of The Old Bear - A New Era

The USMC MARPAT.I'm pretty sure most military buffs would know what the MARPAT or "Marine Pattern" is.For those who don't,it is a new type of camouflage designed around with a "Digital" or "Pixelated" look.Introduced back in '03 for the US Marines,it was the first time a lot of people had ever seen this new type of camouflage.Today a number of military uses the "Digital Camouflage" or "Pixelated Camouflage".Among them are the United States Marine Corps (USMC) - MARPAT,U.S. Army - ACU and Canadian Forces (CF) - CADPAT.The German Army or Bundeswehr, introduced in 1990 what some may refer to as the "Indirect Descendent" of the Digital Camouflage, the "Flecktarn".This camouflage, interestingly is based on the Camouflage Pattern used by the German Waffen-SS back during World War II.It compromises of round patterns, versus the rectangular, pixelated patterns of the "Digital Camouflage".

The Digital Camouflage,by using small rectangles patterned in a pixelated manner, aims to be able to blend in easier with enviroments as in theory, the human eye is less sensitive to pixelated images. And truly enough, you would find a person wearing a Woodland MARPAT Uniform harder to spot or see in forested areas,if compared to a person wearing the older M81 Woodland BDU.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://defensetimes.blogspot.com/2008/10/digital-camouflage-new-era.html' title='Digital Camouflage -
